How did they meet?
They had connected once, and then reconnected later on OkCupid. Jon opened by asking Jaci about what social justice issues she was passionate about, and Jaci asked Jon about the science topics he was most interested in. That conversation has been ongoing ever since!
What was their first date like?
Jaci suggested sushi, which Jon agreed with (even though he secretly hated sushi!) He faked it really well, and his chopstick game was pretty good. The talked and talked, until finally they headed to the Blind Pig and talked some more! Afterwards, they walked through West Side Park in Champaign. When it became cold, they headed to Jon's apartment, which was nearby, and Jon played "Your Song" by Elton John for Jaci on the piano. Three days later, Jon realized that he'd forgotten his car at the sushi place. It had been towed, but they agree that it was worth it!
How did Jonathan propose?
Jon and Jaci designed the engagement ring together, so Jaci knew it was coming. They went to Bloomington, IN for the weekend, and were about to take a hike together in Brown County State Park. Finding an opportune time to pop the question was difficult because there were so many other people hiking that weekend, so they ended up hiking for about five miles before there was a chance. Jon started by saying that he was really enjoying the trip and the hike, and that the last several years together had been amazing. He then got down on one knee and simply asked her to marry him. She said "of course"! After, they went to McDonald's for a milkshake and fries!
